Refereeing is a great way to continue to enjoy soccer, develop personal leadership skills and confidence, and spend Saturdays at the fields (especially if you’re there already!).
No prior referee experience is required!. Please click the link above to register to referee and for additional information on training classes.
Open to all 6th grade and high school aged players that currently, or have previously, participated in FOS, Freedom Soccer Club, Central Carroll Soccer Club, or other soccer clubs. And referees will have the ability to sign up for games at their own discretion and availability.
Refs will be required to go to referee training prior to the season starting, and pass a test in order to referee games. 1st and 2nd year refs will referee at Eldersburg Elementary school.
**NEW for 2026** FOS referees are now eligible for reimbursement for completing the US Soccer First-Time Certified Referee Training Course!! Earn $5 more each FOS game you referee, and have your training paid for!!
The course consists of online training, a quiz, and an in-person training session at a time and location of your choosing run by the Maryland Soccer Referee Program. The course is available to anyone age 13 and older and costs $105 (as of 6/1/2026). Reimbursement will be available after you referee your first game for FOS. The certified ref course is a valuable opportunity to improve your referee skills. As a certified referee in FOS you will earn an extra $5 per game, so sign up at U.S. Soccer Learning Center.
