Fall 2026 Player Registration is Closed

Player registration for the Fall 2026 season is closed for all divisions except for Coed High School.

The Coed High School division will remain open for registration until the school year starts. To register for the Coed High School Division, use the button at the top right of our website.

Volunteer registration will remain open throughout the season. Volunteers smust use the Volunteer Registration button

Please note: We have moved to the SportsEngine platform.

The season starts 17 August when practice begins, except for the Clinic Divisions that do not start until 5 September (weekend after Labor Day) when the regular season begins, and continues through mid-November.

Registration fees are $120/player (plus SE fee) with a $10.00 sibling discount for each additional child in the family when registered in our program at the same time. Registration is not considered complete and your child will not be placed on a team until payment is received.

Except for High School players, no Late Registrations will be accepted after July 15^th so register early!. No other late registrations than High School will be accepted.

Registration is first come/first serve and based on availability. Team sizes and age grouping will depend on the number of participants. Some divisions will fill up fast. We cannot guarantee team placement if your player is placed in the waitlist.

For Kindergarten age players and older, register the player for the grade they will be in during the 2026-2027 school year. And make sure to select, and double-check your selection, of a uniform size that will fit them in the coming Fall.

Requests are only allowed in Clinic and Kindergarten Divisions (and are not guaranteed to be honored). No other player requests will be accepted.

If your child is a member of, or competes with, a travel soccer or Varsity High School team team, they are not eligible to play in the Freedom Optimist Soccer Rec Program.

Refund Policy

100% thru July 15^th. No refunds after registration closes on July 15^th unless the request is due to an injury which would make the player unable to participate during the season, the player evaluates onto a High School team, or possibly an extenuating family circumstance. And all refunds require approval of the league Commissioner, and may be subject to a $20.00 administrative fee. No refunds are made after the season starts (except by approval of the league Commissioner).

Trying out for a High School Team?

If you are registering your high school player and they are also trying out for their high school team please note that on their registration. Should they make the high school team your registration fee will be refunded in full.

Trying out for a Travel Team?

If your child is trying out for an travel team – Do Not Register. Refunds are not offered if a player withdraws to play with a travel team. If tryouts for travel teams are delayed, and your player does not evaluate onto a team, contact FOS for registration options.

Coaching or Volunteering?

Make sure to read the section “Coaching or Volunteering? Background Check Requirements” on the sidebar and complete your volunteer registration, done via the same registration link, and background check.

Freedom Optimist Coach for Community Event

Freedom Optimist is Hosting a Coach for Community Event!

Maryland State Youth Soccer Association in collaboration with Freedom Optimist Soccer will host a Coach for Community event led by Nathean Meadows on Thursday, August 20^th from 6:30 pm – 8:45 pm!

The Coach for Community event has two parts:

It will launch with a 1-hour classroom session, which will provide an overview of best practices for coaching Grassroots players at the Freedom Optimist Hall – 6315 Sykesville Rd, Eldersburg, Maryland, 21784
The event will continue with a 1-hour field session, which will provide practical application of the Play, Practice, Play (PPP) methodology at Freedom Park – 100 Raincliffe Rd, Sykesville, MD 21784.

Referee Registration for Fall 2026 is OPEN!!

Fall 2026 Referee Registration is Open

Refereeing is a great way to continue to enjoy soccer, develop personal leadership skills and confidence, and spend Saturdays at the fields (especially if you’re there already!).

No prior referee experience is required!. Please click the link above to register to referee and for additional information on training classes.

Open to all 6th grade and high school aged players that currently, or have previously, participated in FOS, Freedom Soccer Club, Central Carroll Soccer Club, or other soccer clubs. And referees will have the ability to sign up for games at their own discretion and availability.

Refs will be required to go to referee training prior to the season starting, and pass a test in order to referee games. 1^st and 2^nd year refs will referee at Eldersburg Elementary school.

**NEW for 2026** FOS referees are now eligible for reimbursement for completing the US Soccer First-Time Certified Referee Training Course!! Earn $5 more each FOS game you referee, and have your training paid for!!

The course consists of online training, a quiz, and an in-person training session at a time and location of your choosing run by the Maryland Soccer Referee Program. The course is available to anyone age 13 and older and costs $105 (as of 6/1/2026). Reimbursement will be available after you referee your first game for FOS. The certified ref course is a valuable opportunity to improve your referee skills. As a certified referee in FOS you will earn an extra $5 per game, so sign up at U.S. Soccer Learning Center.
