General Rules and Information
All divisions follow FIFA rules with some exceptions in the divisions to maintain the instructional nature of the recreational program and adjust for smaller gametime during the Spring season.
- General Information
-
- Teams only meet on Sundays; no weekday practices
- The first Sunday is a practice; the remainder of the season are games
- Two 24 minute halves with 5 minute halftime
- 9 v 9 (or based on available players) with Goalkeeper. If one team has
just 8 or 9 players, both teams will play 8v8. If one team has less than
8 players, coaches should combine teams to play a scrimmage until both
teams can field a side. - Offside calls are not normally made. Will only be considered if a player
continually stays by the goal with no one around (cherry-picking), the
coach had already been warned, and the player becomes involved in the play. - All fouls are awarded indirect kicks; no penalty kicks or direct kicks
- No loss of possession on a bad first throw-in. Players are given one more attempt
before loss of possession on a second bad (at the referee’s discretion) throw-in. - No slide tackles or heading (drop ball for unintentional contact,
indirect kick awarded for intentional contact) - Cards are not issued for dangerous play and inappropriate conduct,
but coaches will be requested to substitute players to address instances - Coaches are not allowed on the field. They should not come on while the clock is
running except for injuries. The coaches should remain on the sidelines, on
their own half, and come into the field of play only when needed to assist a player. - Substitutions happen “on the fly”, anytime, with no stoppage needed, by running
a player off the field, and then running the substituting player on to the field,
both through the center of the field on the sideline. - At least two female players must be on the field (subject to available players).
On the field players should be mixed coed. But done so as best as can be
accomplished by the coach based on the team roster and without wearing out players. - Shin guards are mandatory, socks over shin guards
- Size 4 ball
